Heinrich Boll Foundation Scholarship 2024, Germany

The Heinrich Boll Foundation Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship program that aims to support and promote outstanding international students who want to pursue their undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral studies in Germany. The scholarship covers the partial or full tuition fees, living expenses, travel costs, and other academic expenses for the duration of the program.

The scholarship is open to students from all academic disciplines and levels, who share the values and vision of the HBF, a political foundation affiliated with the German Green Party. The scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to study in a diverse and innovative academic environment, as well as to join the HBF’s network of scholars, activists, and partners.

Financial Benefits

The Heinrich Boll Foundation Scholarship provides the following benefits to the selected students:

  • Partial or full tuition fee waiver for the entire program
  • Monthly stipend of EUR 850 (approximately USD 1,000) for undergraduate and master’s degree students, or EUR 1,200 (approximately USD 1,400) for doctoral degree students
  • Travel allowance of EUR 500 (approximately USD 590) per year
  • Health insurance subsidy of EUR 50 (approximately USD 59) per month
  • Additional grants for special needs, family expenses, or research costs

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be a citizen of any country except Germany or EU member states
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent for undergraduate degree applicants, a bachelor’s degree or equivalent for master’s degree applicants, and a master’s degree or equivalent for doctoral degree applicants
  • Have an excellent academic record and potential, as well as a clear motivation and interest in studying in Germany
  • Have a good command of German or English language, depending on the language of instruction of the chosen program
  • Have a strong commitment to the values and vision of the HBF, such as democracy, human rights, social justice, and environmental protection
  • Have a proven record of social or political engagement, such as volunteering, activism, or leadership

  • A motivation letter (maximum 2 pages)
  • Two reference letters from academic or professional referees
