Eligibility Criteria

If you want to be given a Vanier CGS, you must:

The applicant must be a Canadian or foreign student studying in Canada
pursuing a full-time PhD program at a Canadian institution.
Must be nominated by a university that receives the Vainer CGS university quota.
The applicant should be pursuing their first PhD program and should not be receiving any fellowship or scholarship from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC for another doctoral program.
A minimum first-class average is necessary in the final two years of studies.
Joint professional degree program students may apply, but only the PhD tenure will be funded.
